Walk for Life – Melbourne

The Walk for Life movement is a simple, human response to grief — a walk grounded in presence, connection, and shared understanding.

Melbourne Inaugural Walk - Sunday 3 May 2026 - 10am - Jells Park, Ferntree Gully Road, Wheelers Hill 3150

The inaugural Walk for Life – Melbourne is a local, community-led walk created to provide a supportive and understanding space for individuals, families, and friends affected by sudden and unexplained cardiac death, as well as for survivors of unexpected cardiac arrest. Details here.

A simple walk. A shared understanding. A place to connect.

Walk for Life is a community-led walk for people affected by sudden and unexplained cardiac death, and for those who have survived an unexpected cardiac arrest.

In some cases, this means the sudden loss of someone young – a life taken without warning, leaving families and friends facing shock, grief, and unanswered questions. In others, it means surviving a cardiac arrest and living with the physical, emotional, and psychological aftermath of an event that came without warning and defied explanation.

Walk for Life exists to acknowledge both experiences and to offer a gentle way for people to come together with others who understand.

There is no pressure, no expectation, and no requirement to walk. People are welcome to come in whatever way feels right – to walk, to talk, or simply to be present.

Why we walk

Sudden and unexplained cardiac events are isolating, whether they end in loss or survival. When there is no illness to prepare for and often no clear explanation, people can feel unsure where they fit, how to talk about what has happened, or who might truly understand.

For families who have lost someone, the shock is profound. For survivors, the experience can be equally disorienting – life continues but often feels fundamentally changed.

Walk for Life is not a fundraiser and not a medical program. First and foremost, it is a support activity – a simple, informal gathering designed to reduce isolation and create connection.

Any awareness that comes from walking together follows naturally, but support comes first

.Who Walk for Life is for

Walk for Life is open to:

  • family members and friends who have lost someone suddenly

  • survivors of unexpected cardiac arrest and their families and friends

  • people supporting someone affected by either experience

A shared approach

Each Walk for Life event is locally organised and independently run, shaped by the community that brings it to life. There is no central organisation and no single model.

What connects the walks is a shared intention: to recognise sudden loss and survival, reduce isolation, and create space for connection in a way that is respectful, human, and unforced.

Walk for Life – Sydney

A Sydney Walk for Life has been held each year since November 2022. It is grounded in the same spirit of support, connection, and quiet understanding that underpins the Melbourne walk. You can visit the Sydney site here.
